The last time we reported on the industry speculations about what we would be paying for periodical postage in 2007 was in May of 2006. While it was prior to the finalization of the most recent rate case, industry pundits wanted to prepare us for a significant changes.

As we reported last issue, the next step in postal reform is for the House and Senate to reconcile each of their versions of the bill in conference and the Senate has appointed their
conferees. As of this writing the House conferees have not been announced but it is anticipated that Representatives Tom Davis, Henry Waxman, John McHugh, and Danny Davis will be included.

The United States Senate passed the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2005 (S.662) on February 9 by unanimous consent. The U.S. House of Representatives approved its version of postal reform legislation (H.R. 22) last summer.

According to the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), Senator Kit Bond a Republican from Missouri, told a reporter that he expected a vote on S662, the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2005, in February.
