News Release: Publishing Conference for Niche Magazines
New Conference Specifically for Niche Magazine Publishers
Davis, CA - July 17th - Today Niche Media announced the first-ever Niche Magazine Conference, a first of its kind event designed specifically for small-to-medium niche publishers. The conference will be held in Austin on March 5-6, 2007.
The conference is open to magazine publishers and will address the business-side of magazine publishing, with the topics narrowed to revenue-generating ideas with a special emphasis on creative strategies involving sales, circulation, and integrated programs with a practical small budget approach.
Carl Landau, President of Niche Media, created the conference with long-time publisher Nancy O'Brien. Landau is one of the most successful publishers in the niche magazine business he’s started and sold 5 magazines in both the consumer and b-to-b publishing world. He has also taught his Camp Niche ad sales seminar to over 2,000 publishers and ad managers.
Landau said, "I've just never felt like there has been an event targeted towards the niche publisher. These small and medium-size magazine publishers operate in a vacuum. There is no one to learn from. I was one of them for 20 years and have a great sense for the areas that need to be addressed. Particularly, the electronic side of publishing is an area that the small time publishers are grappling with".
The emphasis at the Niche Magazine Conference is on the practical and interactive. There will be 20 sessions that will take place over the two-day conference. These sessions will be taught by 15 successful niche publishers and expert consultant, many of which will be small workshops that emphasize interaction between speakers and attendees. Topics that will be covered include: Ad sales management, electronic advertising, integrated media sales, non-traditional circulation strategies, start-up plans, event synergy, custom publishing and lots more.
Landau, famous in the industry for his “Buy-an-Ad-Get-A-Cat” promotion cautions,
“This event is going to be as wacky and fun as all of my other endeavors!” No boring welcome reception here. The welcome party will take place in a high-tech bowling alley. One of the many interactive events will be "speed publishing" where each attendee will get a 5 minute "meet-and-greet" opportunity with 10 fellow publishers.
